about

This is a first official release of the ookoi's classic and historic 'final' recording from 2010, at the occasion of the publication of a first in a series of studies into the ookoi's works proceedings: "Towards an unhearable music. Conceptualism in the ookoi's art" - petermertens.sumupstore.com/product/towards-an-unhearable-music

« Along history’s timeline, the 'what-is' of art and music, in a fast widening gape, spills out like a horn that is shaped like vuvuzela, the infamously loud and noisy instrument, usually made of brightly coloured plastic, that when being blown produces a piercing mono-tone, somewhere around the first B flat below middle C. Its metaphorical likening to the shape of art’s and music’s evolution in time gave content and form to what may well be the ultimate within the ookoi’s corpus of hearable works. It appropriately was baptized ‘The Final Soundtrack’ and has four movements, like a classical symphony, but followed by a fifth movement, a free-from recapitulating epilogue. The first four movements are built from a minimally edited full in-stadium field recording of the 2010 FIFA World Cup final match between Spain and the Netherlands, featuring a massive vuvuzela section that would have Richard Wagner blush in utter defiance. In each of the first four movements the listener hears a number of repetitive vuvuzela patterns, all preparing for the fourth movement: with the score continuing to be a non-conclusive draw, the tension of the approaching end of time drives the orchestral dynamics to near-explosive heights. The movement and the symphony proper end with the outburst of the stadium choir marking Spain's match winning goal. It is followed by a 4 minute epilogue, a dazzling chronological collage of all the preceding referee whistles and ball kicks. »
