Obviously inspired by my reading of R. Murray Schafer's "The Tuning of the World" in those days, in the early 1980s I filled a couple of cassettes by sticking a lapel microphone out of the windows, street side and court side, of my apartment in the Derde Oosterparkstraat in Amsterdam.
Sudoku Solution 202026 uses the first of two such tapes, recorded on Sunday July 29th. This one holds a continuous recording of the sounds in the back gardens around number 172 on that sunny summer's day, between 16h17 and 17h17. Amidst the coloured hiss (that's probably just due to the tape's noise/signal ratio) you hear on one side the whistling of birds, and on the other a neighbour whisthling one of the big pop hits of those years, "Last night a DJ saved my life" ...
