« I was in no hurry to find the item of news that concerned me. Though I knew the precise date and could turn straight to it if I wished. I come now to the second, to the third, to the fourth. I was drawing nearer with each page that I turned to what I considered the most important action in my life. But the newspaper didn't prepare me in any way for the announcement. Among all these items of news in any way whatever the only one that concerned me would rise to the surface. Suddenly without a warning like a fish rising from the depths of the sea to leap at the bait. »
